Haddington produced a brilliant performance to beat Boroughmuir on a history-making evening.
Haddington 2nd XV ended Boroughmuir Bears unbeaten season with a superb 14-12 win on the town's 3G surface under the lights last Friday evening.
The Goats scored two tries, both from rolling mauls, with lock Kyle Mitchell crashing over in the first half and new dad Alan Laidlaw, who ended the match as skipper, going over to secure victory late on.
Ewan Cunningham landed the first conversion, while Paul McClung's superb touchline effort ensured victory, despite some nervous moments late on.
There was an impressive crowd for the match last Friday, and the home side made a strong start with the returning Campbell Te Rito and Colt William Syme, on his senior debut, combining well in midfield.
Up front, Graeme Dykes was again proving difficult to stop, while there were also nice touches by Laidlaw and Gav Harper.
Stand-off Cunningham had missed an early shot at goal before Mitchell was helped over the line by his pack colleagues following a superb driving line out.
The Haddington number 10 made amends with the conversion to make it 7-0.
Boroughmuir struck back, and were unlucky not to score shortly after, but a fantastic covering tackle by Rob McLuckie kept them out. It was to be McLuckie's last act of the night, though, as he was forced off injured.
The visitors did, though, get on the board as they crossed out wide, but the conversion was missed, meaning the hosts still held a two-point lead.
Richard Scott, team manager, made a number of changes shortly after the break, but the Reds remained in control at the set-piece, with new prop Connor Mitchell putting in a stellar performance.
Muir went in front thanks to their second try, but when Laidlaw dived over to tie the scores, the hosts could sense victory.
McClung converted from the touchline, and some superb defending by wingers Brad Corner and Ally Stewart sealed the win.
