Knox Back To Winning Ways in First Match Of a Double Header

It was certainly a cold start to the morning as Scotty Marnoch walked the pitch at 7.30 unsure whether to play or not after a colder night than expected. After a quick couple of calls, the gamble was taken to go ahead with the game which paid off.

Both Lasswade and Berwick sent teams over for a mini round robin set of matches. First up for Knox were Lasswade.

Before the game, Knox had a couple of blows as one of their front five called off at 8 in the morning and another didn't turn up. This meant Knox had to put full back Macfarlane onto the flank and their big centre Booth stepped up to play in the second row for the first time in 3 years.

The game start evenly with good solid defence from Knox, benefitting from some tough training sessions to improve this part of their game. They pressed Lasswade back into their own half. Cunningham charged down a kick and recovered it on the Lasswade 10 metre line. Some sparkling offloads from Cunningham and Jack released Green who gave a quick dummy and darted through from 20 metres out for the game's first score. Cunningham added a good conversion from out wide.

Lasswade came back quickly though and made a break from their big winger through some weak tackling who looked like he was away. Jack had other ideas and thumped him on the line to force a knock on. However, within 5 minutes the same winger was away again and this time could be stopped.

This spurred Knox into life and their scrum, with a good drive coming through from Booth and Sked in the second row, was getting stronger. From one of these scrums, Cunningham threw a miss pass out to Jack who dummied the looping Dewar and ran straight and hard through some weak tackling to score under the posts.

Knox pushed hard for another score, but some cold hands, poor passing and good Lasswade defence kept the score the same for the rest of the game.

Final score: Knox Academy 14 - Lasswade 5
