Hat Trick For Thomson Wraps Up A Busy Morning

The second match of the day was against local rivals Dunbar. They have been struggling for players recently so it was a 12 a side game with uncontested scrums.

Knox were still a bit flat after the narrow loss to PL, but determined to make sure they didn't slip up. After a bit of a sloppy start, Knox started to take control of the game and after a series of short drives, the ball was popped to Dewar who use his pace to break through for the first score out wide.

Dunbar came back quickly though, and a good break from a scrum along with some weak defence let them through for an easy score.

This stirred Knox back into life and Taylor was soon wreaking havoc with a storming run. Jack continued the break to be stopped at the line. The Knox forwards secured the ball and Wright picked, dummied and made a sniping run for the line where he wrestled the ball down for a good scrum half's try.

Half Time Dunbar 5 Knox 19

Taylor was back on the ball early in the second half making another big break. He was eventually brought down, but the Knox forwards were in support again and the ball was whipped quickly out to the backs who passed swiftly to Jack who ran over for another score.

Dunbar's kick off didn't go the full ten metres and they switched off thinking it would be a scrum restart, but Thomson picked it up and scored a try with a lung bursting run from halfway.

Knox were well in control now and dominating the contact area with thumping tackles coming in from Jack, Eadie, Macfarlane, Sked and Thomson. This pressure led to another try as Cunningham chipped over a rushing defence with Dewar chasing well. From the resulting lineout, Thomson picked up a loose ball and barrelled over for his second of the match.

There wasn't much time left, but enough for one more score from Knox. Again a good chip through from Cunningham was well chased by Dewar. Cunningham followed up and was about to pick up the ball when he was cleared out by McQuade. How did he get there? Luckily Thomson was following up and grabbed the free ball for another easy score.

Full time: Dunbar 5 Knox 38

A comfortable win for Knox to put a smile back on their faces after the pain of the earlier defeat.
