HRFC mourns the passing of Alan Robertson.
Alan was an excellent hooker, playing for the club in the great teams of the 1970s and on into the 1980s, and represented Edinburgh on a number of occasions. He was selected in the “best team of the last 25 years” on the occasion of our 75th Anniversary in 1986. He played in both games when promotion to the old 1st Division was achieved.
The son of former President and Captain, the late Jakes Robertson, he was the first son of a Captain to be appointed Captain. In his first term in season 1976/1977, his Dad was still President. This had followed three seasons as a successful Vice-Captain to the late Jimmy Wilson. He was Captain again in Season 1979/1980.
A quiet man, he continued to be a great supporter of the club behind the scenes and through his family business. His contribution will live on in the form of the great piece of ironwork which he created for the 1970s extension, restored to glory and prominence in the recent upstairs renovations.
