HRFC Dream Team

Webmaster Web Master8 Jul 2020 - 19:03

We caught up with Ian Clark to discuss his Dream Team.

“Not been easy but here goes.Really interesting looking at Jimmy's team, It was basically the one I grew up watching, Malcolm Jones was just something special in my eyes.

“I have been involved at club as long as I can remember!Since making league debut for 1st xv ,at Neilson Park ,first Saturday in October 1979 versus Edinburgh Wanderers aged 16, I have had the privilege to play with many outstanding players. I was fortunate to play with quite a few in both Jimmy's and Bob's teams and there are names from both sprinkled in my team.

“The majority will come from the group of players who gained promotion to Division1. (season 1982/83). It was a rare blend of youngsters, a few old heads, and the experienced back row pair of Norman Morrison and Pete Millican (who moved from Boroughmuir. The experience came from the likes of Dick Short, Alan Robertson, Colin Young and David Laidlaw.

“After playing career cut short with a knee injury in early 1990's, I coached the u-18's alongside Eddie Kornhammer for 6 or 7 seasons; relatively successfully! We were Edinburgh u-18 champions 3 times, and had a couple of semi-final appearances in u-18's championship.

“Then I took up the whistle for 12 seasons!

“Obviously I have had to leave out many very good players, so I will put just a few of them on the subs bench!
