George "Dod" Bain

HRFC mourns the passing of George “Dod” Bain, our oldest player and captain.

He was 95.

Dod was an extremely strong prop who played in the great Haddington team of the 1950s, and captained the side in seasons 1956/57 and 1960/61.

He was also a fine sevens player, featuring in four successive wins at Cartha all as hooker, and four in a row at Haddington, three as hooker and one as prop.

Finally he had the distinction of being the only player to make both of the “best ever team selections” at our 50th and 75th anniversaries.
