It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that Haddington Rugby Club acknowledges the passing of our former player Gordon MacRaild, aged 56, affectionately known to his many friends as “Big Bird.”.
Gordon was much more than a former player and a member of the Haddington Rugby family. He was a larger-than-life character, a loyal friend and someone whose presence will never be forgotten by those fortunate enough to have known him both on and off the rugby pitch.
For me personally, Gordon was a dear and lifelong friend. His humour, loyalty and unmistakable character will never be forgotten. There are people who pass through your life, and there are people who leave an indelible mark on it, Big Bird left his mark.
Gordon will be remembered with enormous affection by his former teammates, friends and the wider Haddington Rugby family. The stories, laughter and memories he gave us will live on, and while his loss leaves a huge hole, we can take comfort in having known such a great man.
On behalf of Haddington Rugby Club, and personally, I extend my deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Gordon’s family and all those closest to him.

Venue: Mortonhall Crematorium
